Warrington Wolverines 2 Altrincham 1

WARRINGTON Wolverines won the battle of the newly-promoted sides at Orford Jubilee Hub on Sunday.

Goals from Nic Chatterley and Helen Dobson sealed the hosts three points in the North West League's Division One South.

“It was great to see the team working hard for each other, pushing for the second goal to secure the three points," said player-manager Wendy Booth.

“This will give the team confidence and belief to take into next week’s game against Ellesmere Port, who are top of the table."

The Wolverines took the lead on 31 minutes when Sarah Sheldon played a through ball into the area for Chatterley to smash low into the corner.

At the other end, keeper Kim Griffiths made several confident saves to keep Warrington ahead at the break.

However it was the visitors who struck next when they curled a free kick into the net on 65 minutes.

Warrington brought on Rebecca Lee to replace the assistant of the first Wolverines goal Sheldon as a fresh pair of legs after 75 minutes.

The hard work and determination paid off in the 83rd minute when Chatterley whipped in a splendid corner to the edge of the Altrincham six-yard box, where captain Dobson side-footed the ball first time into the back of the net.

Chloe Randles-Henshaw came on in the closing stages to help Wolverines hold on to three points.
