WARRINGTON Schoolboys’ team are hoping to build on what proved a successful season last time out.

The town’s top youngsters scooped the Inter Association Cup and have seen several of their young stars training at professional clubs as a result.

Six players have attended trials at Football League clubs including Championship outfit Burnley and League One sides Bury and Oldham Athletic.

Leo Roberts came through successfully and has signed a one-year contract with the Shakers at Gigg Lane.

The youngster started his football career with Appleton Boys and was playing for Matthiola under 13s in the Warrington Junior League’s top flight last season.

However, it was playing for the successful Warrington Schoolboys’ side that Roberts was scouted by Bury.

The schoolboys started their defence of the Inter Association Cup against their Bury Schools counterparts last Saturday.

Manager Justin Singleton’s Warrington side ran out 3-2 winners.

Luke Monaghan hit a double for the Cheshire outfit, before Mathew Lees netted the winner.

They face Wirral Schools in the next round in a repeat of last season's final.
