Eagle Sports 2 Congleton Vale 3

EAGLE Sports were left to rue their performance as newly promoted Congleton Vale turned in a good display to take all three points in the Cheshire League Premier Division clash at Thornton Road.

The hosts were slow to start, allowing the visitors to make most of the early running and pressure. However, it was the home side who had the ball in the net first as Owen Ellis headed home.

Unfortunately for him and his side, the offside flag was raised meaning the goal was chalked off.

With the home side starting to come more into the game, the visitors struck as some slack play within the Eagle wall allowed the ball to go through and past Clare in the home goal.

After half time, the visitors soon struck early to give themselves a two-goal lead.

They were then awarded a penalty after Stephen Robinson brought down his man in the box, but Craig Clare made the required save to keep his side in the game.

Eagle made changes and it had the required effect immediately as Lee Boardman finished well to halve the deficit.

However, after a period of looking likely to snatch an equaliser, some poor defending allowed the visitors' winger to finish past Clare to make the score 3-1 to Vale.

The home side continued to press and did grab a goal when Richard Chinn headed home but they were unable to find an equalising goal.
