FINDING the back of the net proved no trouble for a young Warrington schoolboy in his debut season of competitive football.

Seven-year-old Bradley Wrench, from Birchwood, netted 76 times last season for Birchwood Juniors to scoop the club’s player of the year award.

The Locking Stumps Primary School pupil’s form attracted attention from Premier League clubs such as Everton and Manchester City, but mum Laura says he is happy to keep playing with his friends at Birchwood.

“He’s had a brilliant season,” she said. “He’s been playing at Birchwood since he was five, but this was their first year playing games against other sides.

“We’ve been having a look and don’t think anyone has scored that many in a season at his age.

“He was scoring four or five goals a game and was scouted by Everton and Manchester City.

“He went to Everton trials but we want him to enjoy his football and he decided he just wanted to carry on playing with his friends at the moment.”
