EAGLE Sports failed in their bid to win at Linotype Cheadle today by five clear goals, the cushion needed in order to win the Cheshire Football League Premier Division title for the first time.

Instead Linotype took the title with a 2-0 win over an Eagle side that finished third behind Knutsford after today's final game of the season.

Rob Hope's side were three points and nine goals behind leaders Linotype, who kept their noses in front with Thursday's 1-0 home win that knocked Crewe FC out of the running.

On the same night, Eagle, who were defeated in the Guardian Cup Final by Rylands on Monday, won 5-0 at Garswood to improve the goal difference situation.

Eagle, Liverpool County FA Saturday Challenge Cup and Memorial Cup winners this season, defeated Linotype 2-1 at home on April 21.

EAGLE Sports ensured that the Cheshire FL Premier Division Title race would go down to the final day of the season with a comprehensive 5-0 victory at last season's champions Garswood United.

The visitors knew that only a win would keep them in the race and they started brightly, pressing their opponents high up the pitch from the off.

They took the lead through a Ged McAllister shot which deflected past the goalkeeper via a touch from a defender and they never looked back.

Lee Boardman soon added a second thanks to a trademark free kick and McAllister took his side in at the break with a 3-0 lead, finishing low past the keeper after being put through one on one.

The second half saw the home side come out and try to reduce the deficit, however, after they were reduced to 10 men, Eagle went onto score another two goals through, firstly, McAllister completing his hat-trick, then substitute Danny Burthem finshed well from the edge of the box.
