KRIS Bell’s stoppage time goal secured victory for Rylands in the Guardian Cup final at Cantilever Park on Monday.

It was not a pretty climax to the Warrington and District League competition but Dave Parr’s men celebrated their own glory on a day when they ended Eagle’s hopes of a cup double, having already won the Liverpool County FA Saturday Challenge Cup.

“What a fantastic day! I couldn’t have written that script any better if I had tried,” said Parr.

“I’m delighted for the club to regain the trophy after a long while.”

A Richard Chinn header that looped onto the Rylands crossbar in the 20th minute was as close as Eagle came before the winner in the third minute of added time.

Craig Hall and Chinn failed to deal with the ball in the air for the first time all game and substitute Bell beat goalkeeper Neil McDermott to a bouncing ball to head home his 15th goal of the season and seal the cup.

Rylands: Moor, Gibson, Ajayi, Sinker, Wilson, Brown, Tierney, Berry, Brownhill, Daniels, Southern (Kris Bell 72mins). Subs not used: Finch, Stefan Bell, Clements, Freeman.
