WARRINGTON Town already have their sights set on some major recruitments this summer, says boss Shaun Reid.

Town look set to miss out on the play-offs, needing to take maximum points from their remaining five games and for Bamber Bridge or Spennymoor Town to slip up.

They do have a Doodson Sport Cup final still to play for, and Reid is confident a season that has seen the Yellows reach the FA Cup second round has made them an attractive proposition for players at higher-ranked clubs.

But the Town boss insists his current squad can use the run-in to secure their Cantilever Park future.

“A lot of people want to come and play for this club as it’s a club going places,” he said. “After the play-offs last year and the FA Cup run, it’s put us on the map.

“We are out there and everyone knows about us. With Toby Macormac in charge we will progress year in, year out.

“When I first came here, getting players to come and play for us was hard. Now the list we’ve got for targets is really strong and our sights are set on higher leagues.

“But we’ve got a lot of good players and a lot want to stay, so it’s important they make my mind up.”

One man who impressed over the Easter weekend was Ben Wharton, who added to his goal against Padiham on Saturday with both in a 2-0 win over Prescot Cables on Monday.

“It’s no secret that Ben has struggled for goals so it was good to see him get three over the weekend,” added Reid. “He works his socks off and if you put enough in you get something out.

“The lads worked hard in the two games and got what we deserved.”

Reid welcomes Scott Metcalfe back from suspension while Gerard Kinsella could return for a visit to Brighouse on Saturday, before Town host Scarborough on Tuesday.

“Brighouse we have got to be looking at winning and Tuesday is a big game because they’re just above us,” said Reid. “I will learn a lot about my players in these games.”

And he says his side must learn from the dropped points that have hindered their bid for promotion.

“We have an outside chance, so never say never,” Reid explained. “But there are games we have thrown it away.

“Droylsden at home we were 3-2 up and somehow threw it away trying to get more goals. We can learn from it and how to manage football matches.

“We have to take the positives, ‘what did we do wrong?’ and not let it happen again.”
