SHAUN Reid is confident his Warrington side are beginning to show they can mix it with the division’s best as their unbeaten start to 2015 continues.

Chris Gahgan netted twice in Saturday’s win over play-off chasing Scarborough, while Town have already taken a point off second-place Northwich Victoria this year and drew at table-toppers Salford City last November.

Ben Wharton and Nathan Burke sealed the three points to put the Yellows 14 points behind the Seadogs with four games in hand.

“It was probably the best performance of the season so far,” said Reid. “I was a bit gutted about the two goals we conceded, but we’ll work on putting that right.

“It gives the lads confidence to realise we have played Northwich and drawn when we should have won, beaten Scarborough who are up there as well, and also got a draw at Salford.

“It should register with them that they are a decent side.”

Gahgan’s double at Queensgate topped a return to form for the diminutive winger, who found first team chances hard to come by before Christmas.

But Reid says the Warrington-based former Witton Albion man’s performance on Saturday came as no surprise to him.

“He’s an integral part of the squad, as are all the players at this level,” explained Reid.

“He’s been disappointed he hasn’t had a lot of starts, but I say to players if you come in and do a job it’s very difficult to leave you out.

“That’s the type of form I expect from him, I know he’s capable of, and it’s come at the right time.”

Wharton curled home an opener from Gahgan’s pass, before Burke pounced in the area to add the Yellows’ fourth.

Ryan Blott pulled one back for the hosts before the break, with Gary Bradshaw adding a consolation.

Reid sees no reason why Town cannot continue their unbeaten start to the year.

“We went 17 games unbeaten last year so the same again would put us there or thereabouts,” he added.

“It’s by no means impossible with lots of application, determination and strength – which they have proved they’ve got.”
