Penlake 2 Moore United 4

MOORE United moved up to fourth spot in their JA Walton Challenge Cup group after winning 4-2 at Penlake.

United were unlucky not to take an early lead when Joe Holt escaped his defender but shot wide of the mark.

In the 20th minute Holt hit the ball hard against the corner of the post, Danny Dunne reacted quickly and side footed the ball into the net from a tight angle to give Moore the lead.

This was followed up when Dave Willetts hit the ball from the right edge of the penalty area in the 36th minute to make it 2-0.

Two minutes before the break, Alex Griesdale beat Robinson on the right and ran the ball into the box but Dave Balmer stood strong to smother the ball.

Penlake pulled a goal back from the restart when Griesdale rounded the onrushing Balmer to tap in to an empty net and five minutes later, a flying kick from the Penlake goal keeper reached Davey Baines unmarked in the box who headed the ball over Balmer for 2-2.

On the hour mark, Moore were back in front when great work through Willetts to Dunne who played a defence splitting pass to Holt on the right.

Holt took a touch before firing across the box to Johnson.

He beat two defenders to stab home at the back post with his first touch making it 3-2.

Both teams continued to press and there were nervy moments at both ends as Joe Holt shot just wide for Moore, before a Penlake shot that looked goal bound rattled the cross bar.

Moore put the game to rest late into injury time when Kyle Gallagher cleared the ball at the back to find Holt.

He brought the ball down well and fired it across the box before a goal mouth scramble saw Farnadi poke the ball home to secure the points.
