SHAUN Reid admits Warrington Town were not good enough during yesterday’s loss to Gateshead, but is proud of his side’s history-making FA Cup run.

The Yellows lost 2-0 to Conference outfit Gateshead, who sit three leagues higher than eighth-tier Town, in Sunday’s second round.

It has been a remarkable run for Reid’s men, knocking out higher-ranked opposition on four occasions, but the boss will now turn his attention to winning promotion from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North.

“We got in their faces, but on the day we weren’t good enough,” he explained. “I don’t think football wise we did ourselves justice, we’re better than what we showed on the day.

“We showed a lot of endeavour, a lot of commitment, a lot of belief but ball retention wasn’t what I want.

“Where we are in the football pyramid and what we’ve achieved, how can I not be proud of what they’ve done?

“I’ve seen something in them (his players) where they have kept going against a very good side, they’re not top of the Conference or near the top for no reason. They’ve got good players.

“It’s 11 against 11 and if you’ve got a belief in yourself you’ve got to stick to what you believe in. We did and we hung in there.

“We had a couple of chances near the end but it’s a difficult place to come. We’re hurting and it’s hard to take, but we’ll bounce back from this and go again.”

The Yellows will have a chance to bounce back almost immediately when they visit Radcliffe Borough in the league tomorrow night, Tuesday.

Reid added: “If you stand still and feel sorry for yourself it costs you, we’ll go again Tuesday.

“We’ve come a long way and done a lot. We’ve got a game on Tuesday and we’ve got to bounce back quickly – I’ll make sure they are ready and we’ll go and win three points.”
