WARRINGTON Town's heroes are 90 minutes away this weekend from a fairytale third round tie potentially facing one of the country's football giants.

But it has been a long journey for the side to even get to this point following seven wins across five rounds as well as last month's sell-out FA Cup first round proper game against Exeter City.

Here we look back at the rollercoaster of emotions during a historic victory for the Yellows which helped ensure the players and manager Shaun Reid were the toast of the town during a chilly November night.

Build-up to the game:

FA Cup fever hit Warrington like never before with 2,500 tickets sold within three hours and a viewing figure peak of 2.3million during coverage on BBC2.

The heavy media presence also meant a TV gantry had to be built on top of the stand.

Reporter Aran Dhillon, who helped provide pre-match coverage, said: "It was a real eye opener and I didn't expect there to be so many cameras.

"We were taken on a behind the scenes tour with the BBC and it was a big operation.

"The new TV gantry looked stable but I'm pretty sure when Cantilever Park started rocking it got quite wobbly."

Former England international Trevor Sinclair was part of the BBC punditry team on the night and told Aran beforehand he believed the roar of the home crowd could give Warrington Town an edge.

He added: “It is going to be a really special occasion for Warrington Town and as players matches like this are electric.

“The atmosphere might just lift them and allow them to give an extra 10-15 per cent.

"Warrington are going to make it difficult for them and I am really looking forward to it.”

The goal:

Fans did not have to wait for long for the former West Ham man's prediction to come true thanks to Craig Robinson's seventh minute header.

The goal hero said: “I don’t even know what I did.

“I can’t tell you about it.

“I just made a run for the near post and I think I got a touch on it.

“After that, I just remember it hitting the back of the net and hearing the cheering. I just ran away like a lunatic."

Chief Warrington Guardian photographer Mike Boden was also caught in the melee.

He added: "I was a bit concerned I was in the way before the corner and then the ball flew into the goal area.

"There was a mad scramble and then Robinson started running towards the camera followed by three of four of his teammates.

"I got a text a few minutes after from a mate telling me to get out of the way!"

Near misses:

A number of near misses from Exeter meant fans were on the edge of their seats right up until the final whistle as well as commentator Robbie Savage who grew increasingly high-pitched during his punditry.

He added: "What a game, what an atmosphere, look at them, look what it means to them.

"The desire shown defensively from every single one of them people in a yellow shirt. Unbelievable.

"Some of them can’t even walk, they’re exhausted.

"It’s unbelievable pressure from Exeter and they’re defending for their lives."

Full time:

Left back Matt Doughty, who had been subbed earlier in the game, said: “When the final whistle went I fell over and I was trying to get up but couldn’t because everyone was stepping over me!”

Photographer Mike Boden added: "The final whistle took me by surprise as I thought there was another minute to go.

"It was fantastic and everybody dived over the hoardings and started running towards the centre circle.

"I had no choice but to go with them but I couldn't see where any of the players or manager were.

"I've covered some great sporting occasions but I think everyone felt part of this one as nobody was watching from a distance, they were all in it."

Post-match:

Manager Shaun Reid said: "These boys deserve it. No one will want to come here in the next round.

"Everyone was a hero. They died for me."
