WARRINGTON Town manager Shaun Reid was delighted with his team's result in Cumbria last night as Yellows knocked higher-division Workington out of the Doodson Sport Cup.

Reid was not there to see it.

His staff were in charge while Reid nipped into Derbyshire on a spying mission, casting his eye over Gateshead during their 2-1 win at Alfreton Town.

But he would have been impressed by Warrington's youngsters stepping up to the mark, aided by several senior players and recent signings.

And Reid is confident the youngsters' performance is a sign of good things to come for the club.

"That's indicative of the football club at the moment," he said. "From the youth team right the way through seems to be picking up. We've got some good young kids coming through.

"I picked the team with the other coaches in the morning and the boys went up there and put everything to plan, which is more than pleasing for me.

"It keeps the winning run going."

Town's win shows the club continuing to gather a head of steam in preparation for this weekend's mighty FA Cup battle with Gateshead.

Yellows, featuring a starting XI that will completely change at the Gateshead International Stadium on Sunday, pulled off a 3-2 success in Cumbria.

Ash Ruane, one of the few first-team names in the line-up, struck the winning goal in the 68th minute, taking Town's unbeaten run to five matches and putting them through to the last 16 of the Doodson Sport Cup.

Former Wrexham man James Colbeck scored Town's other two goals.
