HOLDERS Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds and their Cheshire League rivals Eagle Sports marched on in the Guardian Cup on Saturday.

They did so at the expense of Warrington and District League sides Haydock and Windle Labour Club.

For Greenalls, the 5-0 win against Haydock was timely because they have struggled to score and keep out goals of late.

Haydock missed some early chances and it was all Greenalls after that, with goals from Ellis Houghton, Ben Slater (penalty), Lee Vaughan and Ben McWilliams putting the home side in charge by the break. Vaughan added a second in the 77th minute to complete the scoring.

Chris Quirk, twice, and Lee Boardman banged in the goals for Eagle as they sank Windle 3-1 to join Greenalls in the quarter finals alongside Daten Sports, Monk Sports, Rylands, Winwick Athletic as well as either Billinge or Vulcan.

In league action, Orford were defeated 4-1 in a high-octane Premier Division game at Halebank.

Tim McGuinness finished off a pacy counter attack to pull Orford back level at 1-1 but the Widnes outfit restored their advantage before the break and completed their mission with two second-half goals.

Orford thirds succumbed 5-1 at home to St Helens side The Wheaty in Division Four, the 20-yard equaliser in the first half from veteran defender Darren Walsh not being enough to stop the visitors running away with it.

Grange Reserves gave their all in a thrilling 5-4 loss at St Michaels thirds in Division Four.

They hit the woodwork on three occasions as well as scoring through an own goal, Jake Tickle, Sam MacAuley and 16-year-old Connor Bailey on his debut.
