Eagle Sports 2 Poynton FC 1
EAGLE Sports kept themselves in touch with the top three with a late win over Poynton in the Cheshire Football League Premier Division on Saturday.
The visitors started brightly and took advantage of a mix-up between Neil McDermott and Richard Chinn to go 1-0 up early on.
Eagle stepped up their game and struck back around the half-hour mark when Nathan Williams provided the cross for Ged McAllister to coolly chest the ball into the net.
The home side looked the most likely to score in the second half and went close 10 minutes before the end when Danny Nixon’s header was tipped wide by the keeper.
Eagle finally got the winner when Chris Quirk laid the ball to Jon Shakeshaft, who fired his shot low past the keeper.
Eagle's win keeps them within eight points of joint leaders Linotype Cheadle HN and Knutsford.
This Saturday, they head to third-placed Crewe FC in the JB Parker Challenge Cup.
Eagle: McDermott, Coleman, R.Bishop, Chinn, C.Hall, Hope, Shakeshaft, N.Williams, Waldron, McAllister, L.Boardman. Subs: Nixon, Maher, Walker, Burthem, Quirk.
