STOCKPORT County are next up for Warrington Town as they continue in cup competition against higher ranked opposition.

The Hatters visit Cantilever Park in the preliminary round of the Cheshire Senior Cup tonight, Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

And the Yellows are hoping they will pick up new support on the back of their stunning FA Cup giant-killing exploits on Friday night.

Shaun Reid’s men knocked out League Two side Exeter City in a historical night for the 65-year-old club.

In Town’s first appearance in the FA Cup first round, played live on BBC2 and in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,400, a seventh-minute deflected header from central defender Craig Robinson earned the Yellows a 1-0 win and booked them a place in the second round on the weekend of December 6.

Football secretary Chris Henshall was delighted with an astonishing win on a highly successful night for the club.

“I’ve been involved with the club on and off since 1990 and now it’s all good times,” he said.

“There’s never been anything like this for Warrington Town.

“I just hope all the people enjoyed themselves and they’ll all come back to support us.”

Town and Conference North club County will be battling for a place in the first round, with the winners facing a trip to Alsager Town on January 17, 2015.

Cup competition is dominating Town’s fixtures at the moment.

Next Tuesday they will travel to Radcliffe Borough in the first round of the Doodson Cup.

They do have a league game on Saturday though, a long road trip to tackle Kendal Town in Cumbria.

Due to Town’s FA Cup action at the weekend, they dropped two places to 19th in the Evo-Stik First Division North table.

Although sitting fourth from bottom, after finishing in the play-offs spots last year, Town’s FA Cup run has left them with between four and seven games in hand on all but one of their rivals.
