THE BBC’s lead executive for football, Mark Cole, is hoping to avoid a repeat of last year’s floodlight failure at Cantilever Park in tonight’s much-anticipated FA Cup clash between Warrington Town and Exeter City.

The BBC is showing their first live match in the competition for six years – on what could be a fairytale night for the Yellows.

The infamous floodlight incident took place last November during the encounter against Curzon Ashton but Mr Cole is confident of everything running smoothly.

“There is never anything you can do in those situations – all we can do is put in backups and provisions,” said Mr Cole.

“Because it’s our first game back, we have put in extra preparation and extra resilience but at the end of the day it is in the hands of the gods.

“The good thing is that the rain has stopped and the game is going to be on, as people were chatting in the office about it earlier but fortunately it will be.”

Town’s encounter is the club’s biggest home match in their 65-year history and Mr Cole acknowledged the decision to cover tonight’s encounter was a simple one.

“We made the decision to go for the lowest ranked side in competition because that’s what it’s all about,” he added.

“Our job is half done now and we are not silly, we know what happens on the field is what people will be talking about tomorrow morning and not the shots that we take.

“Once we get to the match coverage we will be doing it like it is a normal Premier League match.”
