WARRINGTON Town could land themselves a spot in the FA Cup first round proper for the first time in the club’s history today.

The Yellows host Conference North outfit North Ferriby United, kick-off 3pm, at Cantilever Park in the fourth qualifying round.

A win would see Town reach the prestigious first round stage for the first time and mean the opportunity of a potential money-spinning draw with a Football League team.

For Town skipper Craig Robinson, that could be al clash with brother and former Warrington player Karl, manager at League One outfit MK Dons.

“For me personally, you look at the likes of Sheffield United, but I’d love to take my brother on,” said the defender.

“It would be a nice one for the family, although they would be divided. He wouldn’t want me kicking his players, that’s for sure!”

Town beat another higher-ranked side in Colwyn Bay last round and Robinson knows the Evo-Stik outfit could be one win away from grabbing the national headlines.

“I’ve played in the FA Cup for years and to get to the first round is brilliant,” said the 32-year-old. “I was at Vauxhall Motors at the time we played QPR and beat them.

“For the young lads, and the ability we have in the dressing room, it’s a chance for them to shine.

“We’ve got young players that can go and play higher, but that’s why they are here, as Shaun has brought in players that can do that.”

The FA Cup also holds a special place in the heart of Town boss Shaun Reid.

“I have played in the competition against teams like Wimbledon and Manchester United and I can assure you it’s the best club competition in the world by a million miles,” said the former Rochdale and York City midfielder.

“Last year was the highest we have ever finished in the league and it’s 20 years since we reached this round, so we have got a tough game against North Ferriby and we won’t be taking them lightly.

“There’s a chance for the players to make history for the football club and these chances don’t come around too often in your career.”

And chairman Toby Macormac believes reaching the first round stage would provide a significant boost to the club’s finances and profile.

“The last time we reached this round was the 1994-95 season,” he explained.

“If we get to the first round we want a league club. It would be a reward for all the hard work put in and can really put you on the map.

“The way the TV works, with highlights and live games, would totally change the fortunes of the club – we would love a televised game at home!

“One of the key things we are looking to do is raise the profile of the team in the town and get people down. There’s nothing better than an FA Cup run to do that.”

But Macormac is confident things are looking up for the club on and off the field.

“Shaun’s done a lot of hard work chasing players and getting the ones we want,” he added. “We’ve started a great community project with Everton, so it couldn’t be going better off the pitch as it is on it at the moment.”
