GRAPPENHALL manager Darren Davies believes his side's unbeaten run is driving them on after a late 3-2 J.A. Walton Cup win against Golborne on Saturday.

Davies saw his side grab an injury-time winner to keep up their home record and now thinks they can go far in the competition.

“It means we have won all six of our home games this season and that's a record that’s driving us on at the moment,” Davies said.

“We really hope to progress in this competition and we have got two wins from two so have a real base to kick on now.”

Sports opened the scoring after the half hour mark when Tom Swann’s cross found Dan Sisson, who drilled the ball home with a left foot finish.

Golborne started to come back into the game before half time but Grappenhall managed to hold on to their lead at the break.

After the restart, Golborne again came out faster and after a mix up between the defence and ‘keeper they pulled level.

With 20 minutes remaining, substitute Jordan Rigby slotted home after a sublime through ball from Swann, who offered his second assist of the game.

Sports then decided to sit deeper in the hope they could see out the game but the tactic back-fired and allowed Golborne to equalise with eight minutes to play.

With the momentum with Golborne they looked the more likely to snatch the win, but it was Sports who claimed an injury-time winner when Odi Koubemba scored from six yards.
