WARRINGTON Town will be hoping to march on in the FA Cup when they host the world's oldest football club tomorrow, Saturday.

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South outfit Sheffield FC, founded in 1857, head to Warrington for the second qualifying round clash.

But Shaun Reid's men will be keen to bounce back from their first loss in six outings during the week.

Their five-match unbeaten sequence ended after a 3-1 defeat at Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night.

Yellows, who host Sheffield in the FA Cup this Saturday, led when Ben Wharton broke clear to claim his first goal of the campaign before Brig keeper Lee Dovey’s double save denied the same player and Robbie Booth’s follow-up.

The hosts levelled when Andrew Bell blasted in following a goal - mouth scramble, taking the lead midway through the second period when Alistair Waddecar headed in Chris Marlow’s cross.

And last season’s Division One North play-off finalists settled the outcome minutes later when substi - tute Danny Leigh scored from close range.

Town’s night ended sourly when captain David Mannix was sent off as a punishment for two cautions.

Town: Hibbert (GK), Field, Doughty (Collins), Mannix, McCarten, Hardwick, Booth (Ruane), Corrigan, Wharton, Foster (Davies), Metcalfe. Subs not used: Robinson, Gahgan.

LOUIS Corrigan scored the only goal at the weekend when Warrington inflicted a first away defeat of the campaign on newly- promoted Spennymoor.

The full back’s sweetly-struck at - tempt from outside of the penalty area midway through the first half proved decisive, with Shaun Reid’s men able to protect their lead for the remainder of a close contest.

Their guests created the better chances after the interval, but were denied by a combination of stout Town defending and a fine save late on by goalkeeper Karl Wills.

WARRINGTON Town this week accepted a £1,500 fine from the Northern Premier League after being charged following the abandonment of last month’s match at Darlington.

A third of that sum is suspended until the end of the season.

The club was found guilty on two counts by a disciplinary panel last Thursday, when it was also decided that the score at the time the contest was stopped – 2-0 to the hosts – will be recorded as the result.

“This now draws a line under the incident and we can continue with the season,” said Yellows chairman Toby Macormac.
