RYLANDS recorded an impressive victory in the Cheshire League’s top flight on Saturday, when they defeated last season’s double-winners.

Despite missing several players through injury and suspension, Rylands established a commanding lead through two goals from prolific Kris Bell and a well-taken effort from the returning Dean Jennings.

They took the lead after seven minutes when Gibson pulled the ball back for Berry to fire a goal- bound shot that was handled on the line by Luke Faulkner.

The referee had little option than to award a penalty, sending off the guilty party, before an in-form Bell converted from the spot.

After 20 minutes, the visitors increased their lead following a swift counter that saw Bell beat the offside trap before lobbing over the advancing goalkeeper.

The home side clawed their way back into the game when a free kick was parried by custodian Josh Harris into the path of Joe Jennings, who finished from close range.

Rylands restored a two-goal advantage when Dean Jennings applied the finishing touch to a fine move.

The home side started the second half well but tempers frayed as they became frustrated, prompting the referee to brandish yellow cards to players from both teams.

“I thought we were outstanding in the first half and defended well in the second to pick up points from a difficult away fixture,” said Rylands manager Dave Parr afterwards.
