REIGNING champions Crossbar were too strong for promoted Sporting Widnes as the Warrington Sunday Football League Premier Division season kicked off.

Lee Vaughan netted twice in a 5-0 success at Orford Jubilee Park, with Matthew Bush, Connor Fogg and Chris Holbrook also finding the net.

Goals from Scott Barron and Sean Gallagher were not enough as Hoop and Mallet fell 3-2 at home to Wood Green, two other sides who featured in Division One last season.

Penketh and Sankey Eagle drew 3-3 with Queens Athletic in Huyton.

Craig Hall, Charlie Oliver and Liam Walker made their mark for Eagle.
