SKIPPER Craig Robinson was among the winners at Warrington Town’s annual prize night on Thursday.

The defender joined the club in pre-season from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League top flight side Ashton United, with boss Shaun Reid describing the signing at the time as a ‘major coup’.

His starring role in a Yellows defence that kept 21 clean sheets saw him named by the manager as his player of the year.

James McCarten scooped the player’s player of the year award while the Roger Warburton Shield, chosen by supporters’ club members, went to Scott Metcalfe.

Reid said: “The players have all been magnificent; we have had some fantastic performances and credit should go to these boys as they haven’t been together for long.

“We have come a long way in a short time.

“I was disappointed after losing in the play-offs semi finals, but we can go on from this now. Everybody has to believe it.”

A young Warrington reserve team finished fifth in the Cheshire League’s Second Division with leading scorer Dylan Glass notching an impressive 23 goals in 25 starts.

Boss Steve Saunders picked defender Theo Chrisokou as his player of the season, while Sam Houghton was picked by his teammates as the best performer.

The Yellows’ youth team were crowned Cheshire FA Youth Cup winners in April, with manager Chris Wells choosing Chris Bibby as that team’s star turn for the season.

The players plumped for Niall Ford.

“It’s been a rollercoaster but what a season it has been,” said director of football Toby Macormac.

“The first team recorded their highest number of wins in a season for almost 20 years, making it the most successful season the club has had on the field since.”
