EAGLE Sports’ Cheshire League Division One title chances took a huge blow when they were beaten at rivals Greenalls Padgate St Oswalds.

The result puts the league back in the hands of Garswood United, who travel to Warrington outfit Rylands in for the last game of the season on Saturday.

Eagle took the lead through Lee Boardman, but Lee Hughes levelled for the Greens before the break and an Adam Coleman own goal with 25 minutes remaining gave them the win.

Boardman’s opener came after Ged McAllister was fouled on the edge of the box, allowing Eagle’s set piece specialist to dink one over the wall into the net.

Greenalls began to create chances of their own and Craig Hoyland was twice denied from dead ball situations by Simon Perry in the Eagle goal.

The hosts equalised moments before half time, when a swift counter attack resulted in Hughes beating Richard Chinn and slotting the ball into the bottom corner past Perry.

Eagle knew only a win would give them a realistic shot at the title and came out strongly in the second half, but it was Greenalls who would score the winner and dent their rivals’ hopes.

With 25 minutes remaining, Coleman diverted the ball into his own net from substitute Tomo Lees’ delivery and the visitors were unable to find a reply.
