Eagle Sports 4 Halebank 2

EAGLE Sports progressed to the quarter finals of the Guardian Cup for the third year running with a 4-2 win over Warrington and District League Premier Division side Halebank.

The hosts stormed into a four-goal first half lead thanks to Stuart Bruce, Jay Waldron, Lee Boardman and Owen Ellis strikes, before Halebank pulled two back after the break.

Adam Coleman’s ball down the line was latched onto by Bruce, who rounded the keeper and lofted the ball into an open net from a tight angle.

The Cheshire League side doubled their lead when Rob Hope supplied the through ball for Waldron to skip past the advancing goalkeeper and tap into an empty net.

Eagle added a third soon after when Boardman turned and smashed home from 30 yards.

Coleman turned provider for Sports’ fourth goal as his cross was nodded home at the back post by Ellis, giving the home side a comfortable lead at half time.

Halebank found a way back into the game after Richard Chinn was guilty of a pull back in the box and the Warrington and District League outfit’s captain netted from the spot.

Halebank added a second late on, but Eagle hung on to reach the quarter finals.
