GRAPPENHALL Sports earned a point against Cheshire Football League Division Two table toppers Congleton.
Manager Darren Davies made changes to the side that lost 6-2 at home to Egerton a week earlier and was pleased with the response, although not so much the outcome.
Davies: “I was delighted with the attitude of the boys.
“We feel aggrieved at the penalty decision but we remained focused.
“It's a point against the team at the top of the table but I felt we deserved all three.”
Grappenhall disagreed with the handball call that allowed Congleton to turn round 1-0 in front thanks to the 35th-minute penalty strike.
Sports had been close to opening the scoring themselves, Kurt McCarthy hitting the woodwork after 10 minutes before Ranny Dhwhali and Matt Ball both missed good chances.
More opportunities went begging in the second period before Davies’ men were finally rewarded for their efforts.
Substitute Rory Pownall volleyed home brilliantly from 12 yards after a Dave France flick on to ensure a share of the spoils.
