GREENALLS overcame in-form Crewe FC to reach the JB Parker Challenge Cup last eight.
The hosts separated from their opponents by a single point in the Cheshire League’s top flight, progressed thanks to Robbie Hanley’s double, plus goals from Craig Hoyland and Danny Topping.
They had opportunities to take the lead early on, but Hanley was unable to convert when one-on-one with the visitors’ goalkeeper and Hoyland struck the bar from a free kick.
The breakthrough arrived on 26 minutes when Topping’s dead ball was headed back across goal by Neil Sutch, allowing Hanley to thrash home from eight yards.
Greenalls doubled their lead before the break, Lee Vaughan beating two defenders before his flick was handled in the box.
Hoyland to converted from the spot.
After the interval, substitute Chris Rogers’ through-ball was gathered by Paul Benns and he cut back for Topping to lash left-footed into the roof of the net.
Crewe, on the back of wins against leaders Garswood and champions Knutsford, enjoyed a 20-minute spell of pressure and clawed one back through Josh Brehaut’s long range effort.
Hoyland beat the visitors’ stopper Wes Newton moments later, but saw his strike rebound off the crossbar.
A nervy finish followed when Crewe’s Nath Southern slotted high past Chris Kiernan.
However Hanley secured victory in added time, forcing an error from a Crewe defender and curling into the top left corner.
The sides meet again in the league this Saturday.
Greenalls: Kiernan, Sutch, Johns, Jones, Hynes, Topping, Hughes, Benns (Glendinning), Hanley, Vaughan (Pennington), Hoyland (Rogers).
