Halton Borough 2
GRAPPENHALL Sports squeezed into the Warrington and District League’s Guardian Cup second round at Halton Borough’s expense.
Matt Ball’s double, Kurt McCarthy and Ryan Crawford strikes sent Sports through after Halton had pulled the score back to 3-2 with five minutes remaining.
Grappenhall boss Darren Davies admitted his side had been sloppy late on.
"We knew Halton would come and ensure we had to produce and that's how it turned out,” he said.
“We were sloppy at times but when we needed to step it up we did so. We should have had a few more but we’re delighted to be in the hat for the next round." Ball headed home and McCarthy tapped in from Dan Sisson’s cross, before Crawford added a third and Ball a fourth after Halton’s brief comeback.
(Orford win on penaties)
ORFORD held their nerve with a shoot out victory over Croft FC.
Goalless after 90 minutes, Orford looked like crashing out when they went two goals down with 10 minutes of extra time to play.
However, the Warrington and District League Premier Division leaders dug deep to pull level through Liam McLoughlin and Stuart Smith. Man-of-the-match Conor Yarwood proved the difference in the penalty shoot out, saving twice and scoring himself as Orford converted all four attempts.
