Barnton Wanderers 3
WARRINGTON Town Reserves emerged victorious from a seven-goal thriller with Barnton Wanderers in the Cheshire County League Second Division.
Dylan Glass, Sam Houghton and Chris Bandell strikes opened up a lead for the Yellows, only for Barnton to level by half time, before Liam Turner hit the winner.
On 14 minutes Town were ahead, Houghton’s 30-yard strike parried by the Barnton stopper into Glass’ path for him to open the scoring.
And it only took two minutes for Houghton to add his own name to the scoresheet, this time another long-range effort from 25 yards flew into the back of the net.
Town’s fantastic start continued as they went three up in the 20th minute, Glass and Bandell combining well for the latter to stretch the hosts’ lead with a vicious strike.
However, Barnton reduced the deficit on the half hour and scored twice more before the break to head in all square.
A potentially serious injury to Bandell threatened to overshadow Town’s win as ligament damage caused in a tackle saw him taken to hospital.
However, from the tackle the ball fell to Turner, who spotted the Barnton keeper off his line and lobbed the winner from 25 yards.
Town host league-leaders Congleton Vale in the Challenge Cup on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
