Fast-starting Sandbach prove too strong
11:52am Thursday 29th August 2013 in Football
Moore United 1
Sandbach United 4
VISITORS Sandbach United had sealed victory in this head-to-head before an hour had been played.
Goals from Mike Blundell, Josh Lane and Thomas Watkin established a 3-0 lead early in the second half during the Division Two encounter although Moore, following four substitutions, reduced their arrears when Nathan Clements lashed into the top corner.
However, pushing forward in search of more goals, they were punished when substitute Michael Evans added a fourth for the early pacesetters.
The deadlock had been broken earlier in controversial circumstances, Moore believing the ball had been kicked out of goalkeeper David Balmer’s hands at the moment the visitors edged ahead.
Kyle Gallagher sent a shot against an upright at the other end from close range before Sandbach doubled their lead from the penalty spot.
Losing possession in midfield proved costly for Moore when the visitors all but sealed victory with a third goal.
United had gone into the match on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to neighbours Grappenhall Sports in midweek.
“They outplayed us by wanting it more and making twice as much effort as we did,” said manager Gary Smith afterwards.
