Warrington Town Reserves held by Poynton in Cheshire League opener
Warrington Town Reserves 2 Poynton 2
WARRINGTON Town Reserves surrendered a two-goal lead to share the spoils with Poynton in their Cheshire Football League Division Two opener on Saturday.
George Emsom and Liam Turner gave the Wire a first half lead, before two late Poynton goals saw the Reserves’ first ever competitive match end in a draw.
Chris Brandell and Dylan Glass went close to breaking the deadlock as the young Warrington side started to find their feet.
Then, with half an hour played, Turner was brought down when through on goal and Emsom stepped up to convert from the spot.
The Wire doubled their lead five minutes later when excellent wing play from Matty Cooke found Turner in space to finish from close range.
Poynton began to enjoy a period of possession after the interval, but it took until the hour for Emsom’s handball inside the box to give them a way back into the game.
With the game in the sixth of eight added minutes a Poynton near post header was adjudged to have crossed the line, despite protests from the Warrington defence, and the Wire had to settle for a single point.
