A LATE Daniel Broome header earned Warrington Campus men’s football second team a 1-1 draw with the University of Bolton, writes Daniel Sharpe.
Played in treacherous conditions on a pitch that resembled a mud bath, moving the ball around was not an option therefore resulting in a largely uneventful opening 10 minutes.
After a scrappy opening 40 minutes, Bolton had the first real chance of the match.
Steven Clegg found himself one on one with Warrington goalkeeper Kristian Higson, who reacted well and beat Clegg’s effort away to safety.
Moments later Clegg found himself clear again and this time he made no mistake, hitting a sweet strike into the bottom left hand corner to give Bolton the lead seconds before half time.
A strong defensive display by Ellis Wood kept the visitors at bay in the second half.
Despite the increasing pressure from Warrington, clear-cut chances were few and far between until the hosts won a dubious free kick 10 yards outside the penalty area.
Theo Logan provided the perfect ball for Broome to head home, levelling the scores.
There was still time for one last scoring opportunity.
Jon Williams’ ball over the top fell to Broome but this time he could not convert.
