WARRINGTON edged out Northwich on Saturday to move into the Cheshire County League Division Two promotion places.

Their 13-run win at Walton Lea means their record stands at three wins from as many completed games, with one abandonment.

They now sit 18 points behind leaders Alvanley, the side they travel to face on Saturday.

Warrington batted first after Northwich won the toss and lost openers Ashley Scholes and Malcolm Agar early.

However, Brad McIntosh proved the mainstay of the innings with a knock of 88 to take Warrington to a score of 200-9 from 50 overs.

With the ball, opening bowlers Scholes and Jonathan Fletcher did most of the damage as Northwich struggled to recover from a poor start and were left struggling at 86-6.

Scholes finished with figures of 3-35 and Fletcher took 3-37, but Northwich staged a late rally to get themselves close to their target before eventually succumbing for 187.

Sadly, the seconds could not replicate their success as their batting collapsed at Cheadle.

Only opener Brad Roden (17) reached double figures as they were dismissed for just 53, a target the hosts reached in less than 10 overs without the loss of a wicket.

Batting troubles also plagued the fourths, who struggled to 93-5 batting first from 4 overs.

Hosts Winnington Park reached their target to record a four-wicket win despite John Burgess taking three wickets for Warrington.
