SATURDAY’S comprehensive defeat to Didsbury means Grappenhall have started the Cheshire County Cricket League Premier Division season with back-to-back defeats.

After being asked to bat first at Broad Lane, Grappers had no answer to the visiting bowling attack.

Captain Adam Roylance’s knock of 19 was their top score as they were blitzed for just 83.

They did fight back briefly as Sam Guest clean bowled Didsbury opener Jack Hastings in the first over of their defence.

Although Guest took another wicket later on, Didsbury were always heavy favourites and cantered to an eight-wicket victory in just over 20 overs.

At the same time, the seconds travelled to their Didsbury counterparts and returned to Warrington having wrapped up a 40-run win.

Grappers were struggling on 13-3 having been asked to bat first, but skipper Ross Arrowsmith came to the rescue by hitting a valuable 60 before Matt Titchard smashed 50 not out from just 38 balls to lead them to 170-7.

Arrowsmith led the way with the ball as well by taking 5-42, with Ben Cagna taking three wickets in support to skittle the hosts for 130.
