A HAT-TRICK from Andy Thomas helped Appleton’s seconds make the perfect start to the new campaign on Saturday.
He finished with bowling figures of 6-10 to bundle visitors Christleton out for just 46 and secure a 113-run victory for his side at Lyons Lane.
Earlier, the hosts had posted 159-7 from their 45 overs, with skipper Dave Lomas top-scoring with 48.
Despite an adventurous declaration, the thirds could not force a victory in their opener at Styal’s seconds.
An unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 87 between Si Tomlinson (37*) and Jonathan Owen (39*) allowed the visitors to declare at 163-5, giving them 51 overs to bowl their hosts out.
Styal batted out the overs to reach 100-5 and seal a share of the spoils.
The fourths were beaten by seven wickets at home by Knutsford’s seconds, while the firsts’ game at Old Parkonians was postponed due to a waterlogged ground.
Meanwhile, Appleton Tigers got their Cheshire Women’s Cricket League season off to the perfect start by beating Wistaton by 18 runs.
Chris McLean top-scored with 32 as Appleton were bowled out for 93, but their bowlers were superb in defending a low total.
Olivia Horsfield (3-9) starred, with fellow opening bowler Sami Fowler contributing 2-5 as they dismissed the hosts for 75.
