APPLETON Tigers’ chances of winning the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League Division One title are all but over after a surprise defeat to Didsbury on Sunday.

Sami Fowler (17) and Jess Lewis (12) were the only batters to reach double figures for the hosts at Lyons Lane as they struggled against Didsbury’s spinners, posting a meagre total of 71 all out.

However, Fowler’s opening six-over spell went for just eight runs while wickets for Laura Jackson and Kathryn Jackson kept Appleton in the contest.

Their total proved too low to defend as the visitors won by seven wickets, but the Tigers’ fielding meant it took Didsbury 30 overs to reach their target.

On Friday, the Tigers rounded off their T20 group campaign with a 45-run win at Wistaston Village.

Laura Jackson’s quickfire 25 helped Appleton post 71 from their 15 overs before Kathryn Jackson starred with the ball, taking four wickets without conceding a run to restrict the hosts to 45-6.

The Tigers travel to Oxton on Sunday.
