GRAPPENHALL are in danger of slipping back into the Cheshire County League Premier Division relegation zone after a heavy defeat on Saturday.

Their six-wicket defeat to Hyde at Broad Lane allowed their opponents to leapfrog them in the table.

Grappers now sit just one point and one place above danger, with Cheadle snapping at their heels.

Hyde immediately put the hosts under pressure after inviting Grappers to bat, removing skipper Adam Roylance for no score in the first over.

Fellow opener Jamie Bye (12) was one of only four home batsmen to reach double figures, with Matt Titchard top-scoring with 22 having come in at number nine.

Pete Barnes and Gaz Burns (both 16) also hit double figures, but Grappers were blown away for just 94.

Titchard was also the top performer with the ball as he took 3-34, but Hyde reached their target in the 34th over.

Grappers’ firsts visit Neston on Saturday, while the seconds face a crucial promotion showdown with league leaders Oulton Park at Broad Lane.

The thirds host their Didsbury counterparts on Sunday.
