WARRINGTON’S batting collapsed once again on Saturday as Urmston plunged them deeper into relegation trouble.

After losing the toss at Walton Lea, the hosts were put into bat and the visiting bowlers ran riot.

Only Brad Roden (21) and Rob Batey (12) were able to reach double figures as Warrington were skittled for a paltry total of 67.

The home bowlers had to produce something extremely special, but nothing materialised as Urmston cruised to a 10-wicket victory in just seven overs.

Warrington, who have won just twice this season, are now firmly rooted in the Cheshire County League Division One relegation zone, 43 points from safety.

There are six games of the season remaining, with 25 points available for a win.

The seconds had a much better time of things as they visited their Urmston counterparts, winning by seven wickets to keep their push for promotion alive.

Skipper Simon Swain won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first, a decision vindicated by solid opening spells from Simon Hewitt (2-34) and Chia Gadepalli (1-29).

However, the change bowlers made a superb impact as Phil Whelan (5-38) and Rob Dempster (2-27) helped dismiss Urmston for 125.

Swain and 14-year-old Archie Kellett gave Warrington a solid start with the bat with a half-century stand for the first wicket.

Kellett on to finish unbeaten on 69 as the visitors comfortably reached their target.

The thirds almost pulled off an unlikely victory despite being bowled out for just 100 by Chester Boughton Hall, with Dan Rudd (28) top-scoring.

Warrington’s bowlers plugged away, with Rudd leading the way by taking 3-27, but Chester scraped home by three wickets.

The fourths’ visit to neighbours Glazebury ended in defeat despite Jon Burgess’ figures of 4-45, which helped dismiss the hosts for 179.

Opener Andy Goodfellow (62) almost saved a draw for Warrington, but they were bowled out for 106 in the final over.

On Saturday, the firsts travel to Upton while the seconds welcome their Cheadle counterparts to Walton Lea.

The thirds visit Barnton’s seconds and the fourths are at home to neighbours Appleton.
