WARRINGTON'S fears of relegation from Cheshire County League Division One were worsened by a heavy defeat at promotion-chasing Davenham.

Saturday's seven-wicket loss at Butcher's Stile means Richard Heaney's side sit second from bottom, 20 points adrift of safety.

Batting first, Warrington made a promising start through openers Ashley Scholes (27) and Mal Agar (14), but their dismissal brought about a middle-order collapse.

After the opening pair, only James Rudd (30) and Ryan Swart (12) made it into double figures as Warrington were bowled out for just 110.

Rudd, Johan Els and Brad McIntosh took a wicket each with the ball, but Davenham were always in control of their run chase and reached their victory target in the 27th over.

The seconds had much more success against their Davenham counterparts as they romped to an eight-wicket win at Walton Lea.

Opening bowlers Simon Hewitt (4-34) and Raj Soni (1-18) built pressure on the visitors before Phil Whelan (3-19) and Harley Barrett (1-15) cleaned up the rest as Davenham were dismissed for 92.

Barrett then made 49 with the bat as part of an opening partnership of 70 with skipper Simon Swain (22) that paved the way to victory.

The thirds fell to a 23-run defeat at Upton despite bowling the hosts out for just 136, with Billy Gilbert taking 5-41 while Ben McCarthy and James Shaw claimed two scalps each.

However, only Aaron Soni (43) and McCarthy (37) offered any resistance with the bat as they were all out for 113 in reply.

The fourths had an even worse time with the bat against Bowdon Vale as they lost by 99 runs.

After Theo McCarthy's 5-44 had helped bowl their opposition out for 156, Warrington were dismissed for just 60 as only Paul Agar (18 not out) and Andy Jones (11) reached double figures.

The firsts and seconds both face their Urmston counterparts on Saturday, with the firsts at home and the seconds on the road.

The thirds host Chester Boughton Hall, while the fourths visit neighbours Glazebury's seconds.
