WARRINGTON were able to hang on for a draw in their bottom-of-the-table clash with Sale at Walton Lea on Saturday.

Richard Heaney's side could have leapfrogged their visitors and moved out of the Cheshire County League Division One relegation zone with a victory, but it was left to final pair Rob Batey and Ashley Scholes to bat out time.

Heaney won the toss and invited the visitors to bat, but opening bowlers Scholes and Batey went wicketless as Sale built a solid platform.

It was left to the change bowlers to make inroads, with South African all-rounder Johan Els taking 3-43.

James Rudd, 2-33, and Brad McIntosh, 1-59, were the other wicket-takers as Sale closed on 219-6 from their 50 overs.

Warrington's struggles with the bat continued and the Sale attack wreaked havoc to reduce them to 35-7.

Staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat, Mike Rudd, 38, and Heaney, 31, restored some respectability with a stand of 44.

Rudd added a valuable 17, but it was left to Scholes and Batey to protect the final wicket as Warrington ended their 50 overs on 113-9.

Warrington's seconds made a successful trip to their Stockport counterparts as they won by four wickets.

Isaac Webster led the way as Warrington bowled first, taking 3-16, as fellow opener Ryan Swart took 1-25.

Chia Gadepalli, 2-50, and Rishav Manta, 1-15, also chipped in as Stockport closed on 160-7.

In reply, skipper Simon Swain, 53, and Mark Ewing, 43, built a platform for victory with a second-wicket stand of 95 and, despite a brief wobble, Warrington reached their target with nine overs to spare.

The thirds were forced to hang on for a draw against neighbours Stretton's seconds after seemingly taking control of the game.

Dave Lee took 4-31 to help dismiss Stretton for 120, with Billy Gilbert and Harry Charvill taking three wickets each, but Warrington were soon in trouble with the bat.

Only Harry Kellett, 34, and James Shaw, 16, made scores of note in the top order and it was left to Gilbert, 23 not out, to bat out time as Warrington finished on 108-9.

The fourths had rain to thank as they drew at Trafford Metrovics, who declared on 225-6 despite Ashkant Sharma's 3-28 for Warrington.

Paul Dempster top-scored with 39 for Warrington in reply, but the rain arrived with them struggling on 126-6.

On Saturday, the firsts and seconds face their Davenham counterparts, with the firsts playing at home and the seconds on the road.

The thirds visit Upton while the fourths host Bowdon Vale's seconds.
