A TRIP to high-flying Timperley proved too much for Grappenhall as they slipped to a crushing, 116-run defeat.

Grappers captain Adam Roylance won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first, but they were able to post a solid score of 209-6 from their 50 overs.

The bowlers plugged away despite the loss of Albert Pennington mid-over with a serious hand injury, with Owen Lynch finishing with 3-41 while Roylance, Sam Guest and Gaz Burns picked up a wicket each.

With Pennington unable to bat, Grappers only had nine wickets to play with in reply and they struggled from the outset.

Opener Pete Barnes top-scored with a gritty 41, but six of their nine batsmen were dismissed for single-figure scores.

Ben Bodha, 17, and Burns, 12, were the only others to reach double digits as Grappers were dismissed for just 96.

The seconds were victorious in a remarkable game at Stockport despite being blasted out for just 114 when batting first.

James Jenkinson led the way with 25, with Tim Sykes adding support with 23, but the total looked meagre until the the bowelrs took over.

Jenkinson was the star again as he took 4-4 in eight overs, with Josh Hayes and Matt Titchard claiming two wickets each to dismiss Stockport for 93, sealing a 21-run victory.

Jenkinson was in fine all-round form the following day as the thirds won at Nantwich in another low-scoring contest.

The visitors were dismissed for just 84 at Broad Lane, with Jenkinson taking 5-24, but had Grappers reeling at 2-2 in reply.

However, Jenkinson saved the day with an unbeaten 34 as Grappers won by three wickets.

The firsts welcome defending champions Alderley Edge to Broad Lane on Saturday as the seconds travel to Davenham, with the thirds visiting Bramhall on Sunday.
