A SEVENTH game without a victory against Oxton on Saturday kept Warrington in relegation danger in the Cheshire County League Division One.

Having been put into bat by their hosts, Warrington were never able to mount a partnership as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Liam Heaphy provided some resistance with 46, but Johan Els, 19, and Malcolm Agar, 17, were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as they were dismissed for just 135.

With the ball, Aaron Soni took an early wicket to get Warrington going, but Oxton were able to cruise to a nine-wicket victory with no further alarm.

For the seconds, captain Simon Swain led from the front with a superb century but they could only draw with their Oxton counterparts.

He finished unbeaten on 127, with Tom Higham hitting 76 not out as Warrington declared on 245-1.

However, despite two wickets each for Simon Hewitt, Dave Lee and Rob Dempster, Oxton hung on for a draw by closing on 178-6.

The thirds were never in the game against Oxton as they were bowled out for just 94 before failing to take a wicket in response, sealing a 10-wicket defeat.

Batting troubles also plagued the fourths, who were dismissed for 96 in an eight-wicket loss to Pott Shrigley’s seconds.

On Saturday, the firsts host Bollington while the seconds travel to Brooklands. The thirds take on Bunbury’s seconds and the fourths visit Timperley.
