ONLY two batsmen reached double figures as Warrington held on for a draw at Urmston.

In a match reduced to 30 overs each due to wet weather, Urmston set about the Warrington bowling.

It was only when Brad McIntosh, 2 for 48, and Ryan Swart, 4 for 38, were introduced into the attack that the flow of runs was stemmed prior to Urmston declaring in the 27th over at 159 for 7.

Mike Rudd, 18, and Brad Roden, 11, helped Warrington survive for a draw at 79 for 6.

Warrington’s seconds, 194 for 6, won by four wickets against Urmston’s seconds, 193 for 8.

When the visitors were six wickets down before they had reached 100 thanks to a fine opening spell of bowling from Simon Hewitt, 5 for 29, and Raj Soni, 2 for 48, Warrington were in control.

Some clean hitting from the lower order enabled Urmston to close on a defendable total.

With a stand of 70 between openers Simon Swain, 40, and Tim Rothwell, 30, and supporting knocks from James Sharrock, 33, and Mark Ewing, 29, Warrington closed in on the target.

Soni, entering with two overs to go, smashed the first ball for six and drove the fourth ball for four to give the home side victory with eight balls spare.

A five-wicket defeat was suffered by Warrington’s thirds, 160 for 6, at the hands of Chester BH, 161 for 5.

Mantab, 41, Sharma, 35, and Dave Lee, 32, contributed to a total that was just about defendable but with the home side in total control wickets were taken at a cost.

Warrington’s fourths, 102 for 2, defeated Glazebury’s seconds, 101 for 6, by eight wickets.

Despite Glazebury having a promising start the middle order were held with some accurate bowling from Jon Burgess, 3 for 30, Lewis Nunn, 1 for 7, and Will Goodfellow, 1 for 8.

Warrington had a similar opening stand of 40 from Alan Hitchmough, 21, and Andy Goodfellow, 21, but the middle order continued the good work as Paul Dempster, 19 not out, and Alex Green, 18 not out, saw them home.
