WARRINGTON cricketer Rob Jones made his mark on the county scene yesterday as he celebrated his maiden first-class century for Lancashire.

The 20-year-old, a former pupil at Bridgwater High School, is playing in only his third first-class game but reached three figures for the first time against Middlesex at Old Trafford yesterday.

Opening the batting for the Red Rose county, Jones led the recovery after they slipped to 6-4 and carried his bat on 106 as Lancashire were bowled out for 259.

Jones, who has also represented England at Under 19 level, batted for six-and-a-half hours in his marathon knock, which took 290 balls.

The emotion of the occasion was clear to see as Jones celebrated the milestone in exuberant fashion after passing it by launching Middlesex spinner Ollie Rayner for a huge six.

Earlier this season, Jones was playing his club cricket for Toft and for Cheshire in the Minor Counties league.
