WARRINGTON’S place in the Cheshire County League’s second tier is secure for next season after they enjoyed the better of a draw at Oxton on Saturday.

They ran up 186-9 after winning the toss, led by captain Richard Heaney (36), Huw Stone (38) and Adam Green (30) before a late flurry from Brad McIntosh (23).

Stone (1-32) and Ashley Scholes (1-17) made early inroads at the the top of the hosts’ batting order before Marc De Brabander (49) and Shaaiq Choudhry (53) put on 73 runs for the third wicket.

However the introduction of James Rudd (6-32) to the Warrington attack halted their progress as they closed on 170-9.

A defeat for Cheadle Hulme at Davenham condemned them to the drop along with Tattenhall.

Warrington conclude the campaign at home to Oulton Park on Saturday.

The seconds played out a draw with their Oxton counterparts.

Simon Hewit (1-23) and Aaron Soni (1-25) had the hosts in trouble at 5-2 before Shivas Jogi (4-32) ran through the middle-order.

A late rally took them to 172-8.

Warrington reached 159-8 after James Sharrock (54) set the pace initially.

Shivas (20), Soni (17no) and Paolo Manfredi (20) contributed later.

In the Cheshire League, Warrington’s thirds drew with Barrow’s seconds.

They posted 170-9 after a steady start from Harley Barratt (42) was built on later by Mark Ewing (25) and Rob Dempster (22).

Barrow replied with 146-7.

Raj Soni tied up one end, conceding only 15 runs in 14 overs, while Billy Gilbert (2-20), Barratt (1-20) and Dempster (1-22) rotated bowling duty at the other.

Warrington’s fourths fell to a seven-wicket defeat at home to their Oxton counterparts in the same section.

They succumbed for 94 after the top four batsmen reached double-figures without then making a sizeable score.

Oxton replied with 95-3.

John Burgess (2-23) and Shashwart Rusia (1-20) claimed the wickets to fall as the visitors eased to 95-3 in 22 overs.
