A SUPERB all-round performance from skipper Adam Roylance helped Grappenhall to a thrilling 37-run victory at Tattenhall on Saturday to make it six wins in a row.

The result means Grappenhall remain second in the Cheshire County Cricket League Division One, 33 points behind leaders Didsbury.

After losing his first contest of the day at the toss, Roylance made up for that disappointment by getting his side off to a blistering start alongside fellow opener Jamie Bye.

They got to 55 before Bye fell, with Pete Barnes and Albert Pennington falling cheaply as well which brought James McCoy to the crease.

He made a quick-fire 31 to support his captain in a partnership of 62 for the fourth wicket, but Roylance was the real star of the show as he made his way to a brilliant century.

When he eventually departed for 103, overseas player Ryan Ninan took centre stage and blasted a rapid 71 not out from just 46 deliveries as Grappers declared on 263-6 from 45 overs.

This gave them 55 overs to bowl their hosts out but they did not break through until the 17th over when Gaz Burns removed overseas opener Brett Siebert.

Roylance then took two quick wickets with his spin bowling as Grappers assumed control, but a partnership of 126 for the fourth wicket between Glenn Coppack and Sam Green kept the game in the balance.

With 67 needed to win from 10 overs, but Roylance took a further two wickets to finish with 4-44 and fellow spinner Ninan took 3-70 before Burns and Sam Guest took the last two wickets to ensure a superb victory with an over to spare.

The seconds suffered a surprise home defeat as bottom side Bramhall took home the points with a 36-run victory.

Batting first, the visitors were indebted to a century from opener Rory Patel for their total of 202-6 from their 50 overs, with Ben Cagna taking two wickets for the hosts.

In response, Grappers lost openers Paul Radage and Will Sharp cheaply but Iain Wright’s half-century steadied the ship.

However, he found support hard to come by as Grappers were bowled out for 166.

The thirds won comfortably at relegation-threatened Toft, for whom wickets fell regularly batting first as Josh Hayes took three scalps for Grappers.

After bowling their hosts out for a meagre total ofMatt Tnerner 93, Dave Tully hit an unbeaten 56 to ensure Grappers cruised to an eight-wicket victory inside 19 overs.

The firsts host Oulton Park and the seconds travel to Upton on Saturday, while the thirds welcome Marple to Broad Lane on Sunday.
