WARRINGTON slipped to a narrow, three-wicket defeat against Cheadle Hulme on Saturday despite a spirited bowling effort.

Batting first and after losing Will Fleetwood early, Malcolm Agar and Adam Green made steady progress for Warrington.

Agar eventually fell for 59, while an unbeaten 29 from skipper Richard Heaney boosted the total to a defendable total of 161 all out.

The bowlers were up against it but they set to work early and reduced the visitors to 45-4.

Huw Stone led the way with 4-54 and Ashley Scholes chipped in with 2-39, but Cheadle Hulme reached their target in the final over.

Heaney’s face a double header this weekend, travelling to Didsbury on Saturday before hosting Alderley Edge in the Cheshire Cup quarter final on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a captain's innings of 119 not out from Simon Swain helped Warrington’s seconds to a two-wicket win at Cheadle Hulme.

Billy Gilbert took three wickets as the hosts set Warrington a challenging target of 223 to win the match.

Simon Baty supported Swain with 37 and Alistair Begg was with the skipper at the end to seal a deserved victory.

The thirds enjoyed a crushing 105-run win at Upton.

An unbeaten 64 from James Shaw anchored Warrington’s 163-9 before Theo McCarthy took 3-5 to help dismiss the hosts for just 58 in reply.
