GRAPPENHALL scorched to an eight-wicket victory over Cheadle Hulme on Saturday, thanks in no small part to a blistering James McCoy century.

The opener helped Grappers to victory after they had won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first on a damp day at Broad Lane.

The bowlers set the tone for an excellent performance, with Sam Guest leading the way by taking four wickets as Cheadle Hulme reached 158-9 from their 50 overs.

After losing skipper Adam Roylance without scoring, McCoy took over as he blasted the visiting bowling attack to all parts to reach his ton.

He eventually fell for 106, but Pete Barnes’ unbeaten 43 ensured Grappers coasted home with plenty of time to spare.

The seconds were equally successful against their Cheadle Hulme counterparts, with Matt Titchard taking three wickets to restrict the hosts to 167-9 as they batted first.

In reply, Will Sharp top scored with 70 as Grappers reached their target for the loss of just two wickets.

Sadly, the thirds couldn’t replicate the success as they lost a tight match against Alderley Edge.

After being asked to bat first by their visitors, Grappers could only managed 156 all out as Josh Hayes top scored with 48, with the visitors reaching their target for the loss of five wickets despite two wickets for Arthur Pennington.

The firsts travel to Marple on Saturday, while the seconds host Nantwich and the thirds travel to Sale on Sunday.
