WARRINGTON fell short of victory but they did enough to secure a winning draw in their home clash with Weaverham.

With the weekend weather taking its toll, this game was able to go ahead as scheduled and the hosts were invited to bat first having lost the toss.

The visitors bowled with precision and control but the hosts reached 54 before the first wicket went down as skipper Mike Rudd was clean bowled.

Will Fleetwood and Adam Green then set about putting together another watchful half-century partnership with Fleetwood reaching 52 before losing his wicket and Green making 22 as they contributed the two highest scores of the innings.

Partnerships were at a premium as the Weaverham attack restricted the hosts to 154-7 from their 50 overs.

The wet weather then arrived and reduced the visitors’ innings to just 24 overs and Warrington looked to be in trouble as Weaverham reached 100 for the loss of just one wicket.

However, the introduction of spinner Brad McIntosh turned the game in the home side’s favour as he took a fantastic 5-23.

His most crucial wicket was that of Wilden Cornwall, whose magnificent century contributed to Warrington’s heavy T20 defeat to Weaverham last week, for 32 as he reduced the visitors to 129-6 to secure a winning draw.

The seconds’ match at Brooklands was abandoned without a ball being bowled, but the thirds and fourths both managed to get their games finished.

The thirds won the toss at Chester Boughton Hall and asked their hosts to bat, but they scored quickly to rack up an imposing 201-6, with Vijay Doraisamy taking 4-72 for Warrington.

The visitors lost early wickets in reply but James Lewis finished unbeaten on 60 and Aaron Soni hit 50 not out to secure a draw.

The fourths lost by 24 runs at local rivals Stretton, who scored 193-8 having been put into bat.

The Warrington bowlers looked to be in control as 5-22 from Jon Burgess helped reduce Stretton to 73-7, but Umer Zeb and Will Metcalf both hit half centuries to get their side up to a competitive score.

Les Connolly, who scored 52, and 43 from Luke Griffiths brought Warrington close to winning, but the final Warrington wicket fell in the last over.
