GLAZEBURY’S worrying start to the season continued as their batting let them down again in a heavy ten-wicket defeat at Wistaton.

Batting first against a well-drilled home attack, Glazebury struggled from the outset with only Ian Black, who scored 26, putting up any form of resistance.

Kyle Keeble (10) was the only other visiting batsman to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 58.

Wistaton openers George Barlow and Chris Jobbins made light work of the run chase as they reached the victory target in just over 10 overs.

They welcome Westminster Park to Hurst Lane on Saturday, while the seconds travel to face Sandbach.

RYLANDS defied the weather to get their season off to a good start with a 39-run win over Frodsham.

After being put into bat when Frodsham skipper Richard Warburton won the toss, the hosts were dismissed for a relatively low 108, with opener Eddie Platt top scoring with 33.

However, the Rylands bowlers made a flying start and reduced the visitors to 27-6 before the players were forced off when the rain arrived.

It looked as if the weather would spare Frodsham, but it only proved a temporary reprieve as they were eventually bowled out for 69, with Andy Thomas and Nathan Lowe taking four wickets each.

The seconds couldn’t repeat the feat as they faced the same opponents away from home and fell to a five-wicket defeat.

They scrambled to 148-9 from their overs, but Frodsham reached their target with a few overs to spare.

The firsts hosts Bowdon Vale on Saturday, while the seconds face the same opponents away.

APPLETON Tigers could not defend their low total against Didsbury, losing wickets regularly before Annie Rashid, Poppy Beadsell and Jess Lewis helping them to 72-9, a target Didsbury reached with overs to spare.
