APPLETON Tigers got the cricket season off to the perfect start by winning the inaugural CWCL Indoor Cricket League.

As they prepare to defend their Cheshire Women’s Cricket League Division One title, Appleton demolished opponents Ashton-on-Mersey in the indoor final by an impressive margin of 70 runs.

Charlotte Cross and Olivia Horsfield blasted 39 runs from their four overs, including five sixes, as Appleton set their opponents an imposing total.

The bowlers backed up the work of their teammates, with Kathryn Jackson’s two early wickets being followed up by a tight spell from Sami Fowler to secure the win.

On the back of the triumph, new Appleton captain Nathalie Long hopes it can inspire her team to more silverware in the new season, which starts on Sunday 17th April with a game against a Best Of The League XI at Lyons Lane.

“We’re really excited about this year,” she said.

“We really enjoy playing together so hopefully we can translate that into good performances on the pitch to bring back more the league and cup trophies to the club.”

The Tigers are looking to recruit new players of all ages and abilities to join their women’s team and their girls Under 15 and Under 13 teams.
